REMASTERING EXPERIMENTS

Have you ever purchased a song, on CD or download, that just didn't measure up to your sonic expectations?  When you've grown up with a song and  heard it on countless systems - well, that actually counts for something.  The emotional connection we have to music gets burned into our memory cells.  Too often, stuff that was recorded and originally mastered for the fifties and sixties "media players," jukeboxes, consumer precord players and AM radio comes across digitally with treble like broken glass.  That's why I created this page.  Feel free to comment and contribute.

The Shoop Shoop Song, by Betty Everett
The Shoop Shoop Remix, by Betty Everett

I'm not sure if this song was ever released in stereo - I would bet anything this was remixed from three- (or four-) track by Bill Inglot.  I believe it was originally recorded at Bill Putnam's Universal Studio in Chicago.  It's a great sounding mono single - I'll post my ragged 45RPM copy for comparison.

There's some weird phasing goign on with the vocal.  I guess it's possible the vocal was double-tracked, but it doesn't seem natural.
